Push years vs hold years: timing career moves with Zi Wei Dou Shu
“Try harder” is not a timing strategy. If you are already working and closes still slide off, two problems get mixed: a weak plan and a wrong season. Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology) is unusually direct about the second one.
This is the career-timing companion to Zi Wei Dou Shu vs Western astrology. Same birth data. Different question: should this window be used for forcing outcomes, or for building proof?
What “push” and “hold” actually mean
They are not personality labels. They are pacing for a life department — usually Career, Wealth, or Allies — over a defined window.
Push window: visibility is cheaper than usual; negotiation and closes tend to stick; delay has a cost.
Hold window: forced launches, forced hires, and forced ultimatums tend to leak. Proof, repair, skill, and cash buffer compound. “Manifest harder” from your feed will make you feel broken when you are only mistimed.
Sometimes the bravest move is not launching.
That is not passivity. It is refusing to spend a hold window as if it were a push window.
Why Western timing language is not the same map
Western astrology can time events — transits, progressions, solar returns. Zi Wei still adds something many English-speaking clients lack: which department is loud, not only that something is loud.
| If you ask… | Push-year answer | Hold-year answer |
|---|---|---|
| Should I ship the offer this quarter? | Yes, with a close-date | Ship a proof version; delay the “big” launch |
| Should I hire / raise / relocate? | Interview and decide | Keep pipeline warm; do not sign from panic |
| Should I force a relationship decision? | Name terms while the window supports it | Stop ultimatums; stabilize logistics |
| Why is effort not converting? | Targeting / offer (plan) | Season (timing) — stop doubling the same push |
Keep Western for temperament. Use Zi Wei when the question is career, money, or allies pacing.
Palaces first, slogan never
We do not start with “your year is lucky.” We start from the stuck point:
- Busy but cash does not stick → Wealth + Career
- Offers that almost close → Career + Allies
- Workplace politics draining you → Career + Allies
- Help that never arrives → Allies timing
Then we ask whether the near window for that cluster is push or hold. Two people with similar ambition language can need opposite moves in the same calendar year.
What Written Clarity can do
It can name the palace cluster, say push vs hold for the near window, and give three actions that match that pacing. It cannot tour the whole decade, and it is not medical, legal, or investment advice. The fuller map is the Deep Life Reading.
How to use a hold year without freezing
- Convert activity into proof (case study, sample, quieter beta)
- Repair one leak (pricing, collections, a boundary)
- Build a 90-day cash or skill buffer
- Keep conversations warm without signing from anxiety
How to use a push year without burning the house
- Put a real close-date on the offer already in motion
- Ask for the introduction you have been waiting to “deserve”
- Negotiate while visibility is cheap
- Do not hide inside another course
FAQ
Is every year globally a push year or a hold year?
No. It is palace-specific. Career can be a push window while Relationship is a hold window.
Do I need exact birth time?
Exact hour is best. If unknown, we work with a narrowed window and tell you what is uncertain.
Can I use this with my Western astrologer?
Yes. Keep Western for style under stress; use Zi Wei for which life department is active and whether the near window favors push or hold.
Is a hold year the same as doing nothing?
No. Hold years reward proof-building, repair, and buffers — not forced launches. Push years reward visibility and closes.
